Pin Vise:

Create custom hand tools by fitting various grinding bits into a pin vise.

You can make quick work of cleaning a hole or de-burring the end of a wire by combining some of the grinding bits normally used by jewelers in a motorized rotary tool with the hand-held convenience of a pin vise.

My choice:

There’s a wide array of pin vises that work great.  I just happen to like the comfort of this one with a wood handle that nestles into your palm.

A pin vise is a great hand-held holder for small “bits” usually used in a flex-shaft or other mechanized rotary tool…

My focus as an instructor is to show you how you can use hand tools and small equipment to make great jewelry.  There are a couple of select burs (grinding bits) typically used in a mechanized rotary tool like a flex shaft that can be very useful as hand tools when mounted in a pin vise.

A pin vise is virtually just a handle.  There’s commonly a variety of 4 different size “chucks” within the handle.  You just need to be sure your pin vise includes a chuck for a 3/32” shank, which is the common shank size for the grinding bits created for the jewelry industry.  Typically, if you get your pin vise from a jewelry supply house, it will include this size chuck.
