Learn how to make Streamer Dangle Earrings…
Layering a silver wire dangle over copper shapes makes them pop.
Bi-metal jewelry is popular. In this design the silver wire streamer dangle is the star of the show. But the copper blank layered behind provides the stage for it to shine brightly.
To achieve a fabulous drape, the wire streamer dangle needs to have good balance and lay flat on the copper blank.
A streamer dangle is a squiggle link with only one loop. So, gravity plays a huge role in this design. Every curve needs to align to an imaginary line with the weight evenly dispersed. Otherwise, the dangle will hang askew.
And if you are striving to craft professional looking jewelry, the dangle should hang flush to the copper blank when it’s dangling. This is much easier to achieve when you know what to look for and how to fix issues that inhibit the drape. For each stage – forming, forging, and even assembly – there are nuanced strategies that are typically honed over years of experience.
Here at Jewelry Classes with Jen, I happily share this insider knowledge.
This lesson is part of our signature course – Measuring Charts Made Easy – where you’ll learn our 3-step system for making patterns for jewelry components. With the knowledge of how to craft consistent components, you’ll be able to make matching mirror-image dangles with ease. Our instruction provides specific guidance on where to hold and how to apply just the right pressure to form well-balanced streamer dangles. Plus, there’s advice about correcting the alignment and maintaining it while you forge them flat.
You’ll also find supporting information about adding a hammered texture and punching holes in just the right spot. There’s even an additional lesson about how to achieve a bronze hue patina on the copper for added pizazz.
